How can we accelerate the circular economy? The answer is simple: by increasing the value of circular economy products and services. In practice, however, profitable and scalable models are still rare. Soilfood Newera is one of them.
Many people know Soilfood as an agricultural player — and for good reason. We’ve refined over a million tons of industrial side streams into fertilizers and soil improvers for farms in Finland and Sweden.
From day one, we at Soilfood have seen industrial side streams and by-products as raw materials. Around that insight, we built a service model where the quality of both products and services could be guaranteed in a new, professional way.
Through that work, we identified that many industrial side streams could be refined into significantly higher-value end products.
Last year, we launched Soilfood Newera, a new line of recycled raw materials for industrial use. The first products in the line are recycled lime alternatives for industry, which can replace virgin raw materials in various industrial processes — helping reduce emissions, especially in cleaning, stabilization, and product manufacturing.
Still today, one of the biggest barriers to circular economy growth is raw material availability.
For circular services to be attractive and viable for industries producing side streams, the following conditions must be met:
With Newera, both are true.
We will continue to support domestic fertilizer production as before. But with the addition of Newera recycled materials, the relationship between industry and agriculture is now more balanced. The flow no longer goes only from industry to agriculture — we’re now adding momentum from industry back to industry.
This builds sustainable recycling and enables the transformation the world so urgently needs.
Because at Soilfood, we want to replace virgin raw materials and products — as much as possible, as fast as possible.
